Sarah Palin and her daughter have a lot to say about the current scandal shrouding Josh Duggar and his family. Specifically, they don’t understand why “liberal media” is attacking the Duggars while Lena Dunham gets a “total pass” for “sexually experimenting” with her sister, as she wrote about in her book, Not That Kind of Girl.
Bristol wrote a short blog post on Patheos, calling out the “double standards” the media holds. She wrote, “I can’t believe how crazy the media is going over the Duggar family compared to the big fat yawn they gave Lena Dunham when she wrote in her book that she sexually experimented with her sister.”
She included a short passage from Dunham’s book that said she “would do anything a sexual predator might do” to her sister in addition to supposedly using her “as a sexual outlet, bribing her to kiss her for prolonged periods and even masturbating” while she was in the bed beside her.
Bristol slams the media for praising the Girls star for her “honest and witty” book. But while her blog post was brief and to her point, her mom went on a much longer rant on Facebook.
“The intolerant left’s destructive personal intrusions and narrow-mindedness applied to their chosen targets are bad enough, but their double standards are beyond the pale,” Sarah wrote.
Although she was quick to note that she doesn’t find what Josh did acceptable, she does believe that Dunham should also be held accountable for her actions.
“I’m not defending the Duggar boy’s obvious wrongdoing over a decade ago. The main victim in any story like this isn’t the perpetrator, it’s the innocent ones so harmfully affected. I’m not an apologist for any sexual predator, but I’m sickened that the media gives their chosen ones a pass for any behavior as long as they share their leftwing politics,” she continued.
“Case in point, they suggest Lena Dunham’s sexual assault on her sibling is cute, and she’s rewarded for it with fame and fortune. Meanwhile, they crucify another, along with an entire family.”
The Alaska native implored readers to “shift” the debate from solely Josh’s actions to include the “shocking, unethical leak” of a legal document and the media’s “hell bent mission” to defend Dunham and other “leftwinger celeb caught doing awful things.”
“Such obvious double standards applied to equally relevant stories underestimate the wisdom of the public, discredit the press, and spit on the graves of every American who fought and died for the press’s freedom,” she wrote.
“I hate for anyone to go through this game liberals are allowed to play, relentlessly attacking on an uneven playing field until a conservative’s career, relationships, and reputation are destroyed. To the media’s targets I encourage, ‘Rise above by never claiming ‘victim’, tell the truth, and keep the faith!'”
At the time of Dunham’s book release, the passage in question sparked a lot of controversy and even prompted her to respond to allegations that she assaulted her sister, Grace Dunham.
“The right wing news story that I molested my little sister isn’t just LOL—it’s really f–king upsetting and disgusting,” the Golden Globe winner told her 2.22 million followers. “And by the way, if you were a little kid and never looked at another little kid’s vagina, well, congrats to you. Usually this is stuff I can ignore but don’t demean sufferers, don’t twist my words, back the f–k up bros. I told a story about being a weird 7 year old. I bet you have some too, old men, that I’d rather not hear. And yes, this is a rage spiral. Sometimes I get so mad I burn right up. Also I wish my sister wasn’t laughing so hard.”
But her response only resulted in more backlash until her sister and a friend came to her defense.
