Let’s just come out and say it: Amy Schumer is one of the hottest acts in comedy today. So it’s no surprise that she was courted for—and seriously considered taking over—The Daily Show from Jon Stewart.
Schumer has been open about the potential gig, telling The Daily Beast she turned down the gig because she perceived it to be too safe. On Howard Stern‘s Sirius XM show, Schumer elaborated on why she said no to taking over the Comedy Central staple.
“I think if I heard I was hosting The Daily Show, I’d be like, ‘Oh, give me a f—king break!'” she joked with Stern. But just the fact that Comedy Central approached her was an honor to Schumer.
“Yeah, them asking me made me cry. I was like that means so much to me that they believed in me like that,” she said.
The Inside Amy Schumer star said she took several meetings with the network, including a pizza date with Jon Stewart. So what did she ask the outgoing host? “I think I asked if it was fun,” she said with a laugh. “Jon and I have in common that neither of us really like free time.”
But in the end, well, it wasn’t the right fit for Schumer. “I just pictured all the fittings and blazers I’d have to wear and I was like, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ I really thought about it, I just thought it’s not right for me. Trevor [Noah] will be so much better at it than I could have ever been,” she said.
“For [The Daily Show], it felt like it would be betting against myself, ‘This way I’m secure and I’ll make this and I’ll have this job,’ but no, I’m going to bet on myself that I can do more,” Schumer said about taking The Daily Show and having job security.
However, one job she may consider taking is that of The Bachelorette. Schumer, a fan of the reality franchise, told E! News she’d take on the role if several of her conditions were met. Check out the video above for more!
Hey, she was joking, but we can dream. #AmyForTheBachelorette, people!
